A bathroom without ledges
by Minital Studio
·
The ledge above the basin collects what has no other place. A half-used tube, a bar of soap, a bottle that belongs in the shower. None of it placed with intention — accumulated by default, because the ledge was there and there was nowhere better.
This is not a problem of too many things. It is a problem of where things go.
Moving bottles to the wall
A bottle of shampoo or hand wash does not need a surface. It needs a fixed point. The HOLD bottle holder — folded from 3 mm aluminium, projecting 80 mm from the wall — holds a standard 500 ml bottle directly on the wall, off every ledge entirely.
The Single holds one bottle at 80 mm wide. The Double holds two, side by side, at 160 mm wide. Both mount with two countersunk screws or with 3M VHB adhesive directly onto tiles — no drilling required.
For a shared bathroom: a Double on the shower wall for shampoo and conditioner, a Single beside the basin for hand wash. Two ledges cleared by two pieces.
A shelf for what remains
Some things do need a flat surface — a bar of soap, a candle, a glass. The Line 350 provides one: 350 mm wide, 80 mm deep, 3 mm aluminium, mounting with 3M VHB adhesive rather than fixings. On tiles, on plaster, on smooth painted walls. No drilling.
At 350 mm it holds a soap, a small object, and one other thing without becoming a ledge for accumulation. The difference between a surface and a ledge is intent — the Line 350 is narrow enough that placement on it is a decision, not a default.
Maximum load: 5 kg. For a rented flat where tile drilling is not permitted, this is the right shelf.
For towels
The Wave Hook is a single piece of 3 mm aluminium folded once into a continuous wave profile — three hook points, no bar, no separate fittings. 360 mm wide, two fixing points, three towel positions.
In a bathroom with one usable wall, it replaces multiple individual hooks while reading as a single considered object. Nothing to loosen over time. No separate fittings to match. One piece.
The system
These three pieces — HOLD on the shower wall or beside the basin, Line 350 above the sink, Wave Hook on the adjacent wall — form a complete bathroom wall without requiring a single ledge to stay in use.
All three are available in Black, White, Beige, and Sienna Red, powder-coated matte. Order them together and they arrive from the same production batch — the finish is matched rather than close.
Installation notes
The HOLD holders and Line 350 are both available with 3M VHB adhesive. Clean the tile surface with isopropyl alcohol before application and allow 24 hours before loading. The Wave Hook requires two screw fixings.
Heights as a starting point: HOLD holder at 1200–1400 mm from the floor, adjusted for your basin height. Line 350 at 100–200 mm above the tap — enough clearance to use the tap without the shelf feeling overhead. Wave Hook at 1500–1700 mm from the floor.
For a rental where any drilling is a question: the HOLD and Line 350 on adhesive handle the bottles and the flat surface. A freestanding hook elsewhere takes care of towels until the Wave Hook becomes permanent.
FAQ
- How do I keep a small bathroom tidy without built-in storage?
- Wall-mounting daily-use bottles with a HOLD holder, a small shelf for what needs a flat surface, and a hook rail for towels moves everything off the basin ledge and onto the wall — each object at a fixed point rather than accumulating wherever there is space.
- What bathroom wall accessories can be installed without drilling?
- The HOLD bottle holders (Single and Double) and the Line 350 shelf are both available with 3M VHB adhesive mounting. They install on glazed tiles, smooth plaster, and painted walls without drilling, and release cleanly when heated.
- How high should a bathroom shelf be positioned above a basin?
- 100–200 mm above the tap is the practical range — enough clearance to use the tap comfortably. For a standard basin at approximately 900 mm, this places the shelf at 1400–1500 mm from the floor.
- What is the best minimal towel hook for a bathroom?
- The Wave Hook provides three hook points in a single 360 mm aluminium form — no bar, no separate fittings. It suits bathrooms where a standard towel rail would read as utilitarian rather than considered.
- Can I install bathroom shelves on tiles in a rented flat?
- Yes — the Line 350 shelf and HOLD bottle holders use 3M VHB adhesive, which bonds to glazed tiles without drilling and removes cleanly at the end of a tenancy when the surface is heated gently.
- How do I create a coordinated bathroom wall in a single finish?
- Choose one finish — Black, White, Beige, or Sienna Red — and order all pieces together. The HOLD holders, Line 350, and Wave Hook share the same powder-coated aluminium palette and arrive matched from the same production batch.
